A Sustainable 2024 ALPMA Summit + ALTACON

The Australasian Legal Practice Management Association (ALPMA) and The Australian Legal Technology Association (ALTA) recognises that urgent action is required to help reduce the impact of climate change, reduce waste and manage our natural resources as sustainably as possible. As an organisation we are committed to implementing sustainability practices into our operations as best we can in practical ways.

We believe that meetings and face-to-face events are an important part of learning and professional development, forging connections, networking and knowledge-sharing. We understand however, that these meetings can involve significant travel and resource usage, generate waste and increase our carbon footprint.

With this in mind, we have prepared a sustainability statement, outlining the ways in which we are aiming to minimise the environmental impacts of the 2024 ALPMA Summit + ALTACON event.

With ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) factors at the forefront of creating a sustainable Summit we have made choices that align with our sustainability goals and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Even the smallest choice makes a difference to our future. We are striving to make our Summit as sustainable as possible; and by implementing these strategies at the 2024 ALPMA Summit + ALTACON we are taking a step in the right direction. We are committed to building a strong foundation to maintain a healthy sustainable future.

Reforest Project

The 2024 ALPMA Summit + ALTACON are planting trees in your name!

The ALPMA Summit + ALTACON will be partnering with Reforest on the Cooroy Mountain Wildlife Corridor Project. For every delegate that attends the 2024 ALPMA Summit + ALTACON, one (1) tree will be planted by Reforest in Eumundi, Queensland.

The Cooroy Mountain Wildlife Corridor Project is a crucial reforestation effort located in the Sunshine Coast hinterland of Queensland, Australia. This initiative aims to restore 3.8 hectares of former grazing land to its original lowland subtropical rainforest state, an ecosystem recognised as critically endangered. By planting nearly 10,000 native tress, the project not only enhances local biodiversity but also improves water quality in the Mary River and supports the habitat for threatened wildlife species.

The reforestation site, situated along a tributary creek, plays a vital role in extending existing riparian vegetation and connecting wildlife corridors. This restoration involves planting a variety of native species, including rare Lenwebbia, known for their resistance to myrtle rust. The project ensures the long-term survival of these trees through regular maintenance until they establish themselves. By engaging with Noosa and District Landcare, the project underscores the commitment to long-term environmental outcomes and conservation efforts.

In addition to its environmental benefits, the project features the Kurui Cabin, an eco-friendly accommodation that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the local environment while contributing to the reforestation effort. This unique experience fosters a deeper connection to the land and supports sustainable tourism.

The ALPMA Summit + ALTACON's collaboration with the Reforest Project highlights a shared vision for environmental stewardship and the importance of restoring natural habitats for future generations.
