Pre-Congress Workshops
A series of Pre-Congress Workshops are available on Tuesday, 3 December. Two breakfast sessions are also available on Thursday, 5 December. All sessions are complimentary.
Workshop 1: "I don’t know where to start”: Responding to the learning needs of individual clinicians and AYA cancer services
Tuesday December 3, 08:30am - 12:30pm
Facilitated by Dr Toni Lindsay, Dr Ani Wierenga and Prof Susan Sawyer.
Explore what is happening both locally and internationally. In this pre-conference workshop, participants will engage in learning about the ways that AYA cancer care has evolved in the past decades, and what the challenges are going forward.
Engage and reflect on the educational processes around AYA knowledge, engagement and training within the community and models of how this can be applied.
Participants will be encouraged to formulate the learning needs of their own workplaces and identify strategies to help support the integration of education, learning and evaluation frameworks.
This workshop is open to all delegates and will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Workshop 2: Methods, models, and measuring what matters in AYA psychosocial oncology research

Facilitated by Dr Ursula Sansom- Daly
The workshop will have a dual focus on networking and capacity-building around new approaches and research methods.
This workshop will be beneficial to early- to mid-career researchers, including clinician-researchers who have a dedicated research role in developing and leading research studies in psychosocial and allied health aspects of AYA oncology.
This workshop is open to all delegates and will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Workshop 3: The past, present and future of AYA Cancer Nursing

Facilitated by Dr Louise Soanes
This pre-congress workshop will be of benefit to all nurses with an interest in AYA cancer care and include a tour of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre facilities.
The workshop will include an overview of current trends and emerging areas in AYA oncology nursing.
This workshop will be held at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and is open to nurses (generalist and specialist across nursing settings) with an interest in AYA cancer care.
Workshop 4: Supercharge Your Advocacy
Consumer WorkshopTuesday December 3, 08:30am - 12:30pm
Facilitated by Katie Rizvi
This interactive workshop offers a unique opportunity for AYA cancer patients and survivors to come together, learn from each other, and collectively work towards improving AYA cancer advocacy efforts globally.
The workshop offers an opportunity to network with other AYA consumers from around the globe and learn from shared lived experiences to advocate for change.
This workshop will be held at the the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and is open to cancer patients and survivors only.
Breakfast Session 1: Tailored health and wellness interventions for AYA - Booked Out
Thursday December 5, 7:30am - 8:45am
Facilitated by Dr Claire Munsie
This session will include a series of presentations highlighting a range of therapeutic programs offered across Australia aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of Adolescent and Young Adult cancer patients and survivors.
It will also include a facilitated panel discussion with consumer input on the benefits of such programs as experienced by young people themselves.
Breakfast Session 2: AYA Telehealth Optimisation Workshop
Thursday December 5, 7:30am - 8:30am
Facilitated by Dr Michael Roth
In this mini workshop participants will explore current challenges and improvement ideas for AYA telehealth care delivery. With a focus on equity for rural patients and patients from low- and middle-income countries, participants will explore optimal models of care/approaches for different clinical uses, as well as balancing flexibility/convenience with optimal clinical care.
This workshop will be held at the the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and is open to all delegates.
Breakfast Session 3: Low-to-middle income country Networking Workshop
Thursday December 5, 7:30am - 8:30am
Facilitated by Dr Michael Osborn
This networking breakfast gives delegates from low-and middle-income countries an opportunity to connect, share ideas, and learn from other AYA cancer experts. Delegates can discuss both opportunities and challenges faced in their respective countries, share research and care practices, and connect to a worldwide network of experts from low-and middle-income countries that are focused on improving cancer care and outcomes for AYAs.
This workshop will be held at the the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and is open to LMIC delegates only.
