Amur

Amur became an AYA patient at age 22. Being a disabled queer young person from a refugee/migrant background, he encountered intersectional barriers accessing healthcare, and went through his cancer journey without family support. Motivated by his lived experience, he became an advocate for the marginalised communities he is a part of. Amur is a member of the Consumer Advisory Group of AYA Cancer Network Aotearoa, Migrants Against the Acceptable Standard of Health Aotearoa - a grassroots migrant collective campaigning to end disability and health discrimination in Aotearoa New Zealand’s immigration system, and a co-founder of Rainbow Path - a peer support community and advocacy network for LGBTIQ+ refugees and asylum seekers living in Aotearoa New Zealand. He is currently working through a degree in Law at Waipapa Taumata Rau, The University of Auckland. Outside of work and study, he enjoys learning about music traditions from different parts of the world, and photographing the neighbourhood cats he meets on his walks.
