Places of Interest

There are many exciting places to visit and Lorne attractions to enjoy within the Lorne district; many are a short stroll from Mountjoy Parade, the heart of the township. From waterfalls, shipwrecks, bushwalking, sightseeing, fishing, four wheel drive touring, shopping, tennis, golf, art exhibitions, markets and restaurants to simply relaxing on the beach enjoying the afternoon sun.

Everything you need for a successful visit is at your finger tips in and around Lorne.

Nestled among the towering Otway treetops, Live Wire Park is powered by nature. The park has been thoughtfully designed to have a minimal impact on the environment. Fuelled by solar power and with all water collected, used and treated on site, this makes Live Wire Park a sustainable business. Live Wire Park is a family-owned business; run by locals who are passionate about the environment and sharing the natural wonders of the Surf Coast of Australia with the rest of the world.

The Twelve Apostles

While anytime of the day provides a great spectacle, sunrise and sunset are particularly impressive for the blazing hues created. A visit to the Twelve Apostles begins at the Twelve Apostles Visitor Centre. The parking area is designed to cater for the 1.2 million visitors annually that enjoy the site. A tunnel takes people under the Great Ocean Road to extensive boardwalk and viewing platforms.

From its beginnings in 1969, Lorne Historical Society has documented the history of the township and surrounding district, gathering facts, photographs and assorted merchandise from the region’s rich past. Various publications and books about Lorne’s history are the work of historical society members who have also played a leading role in a heritage walk which tracks the town’s Indigenous and European heritage and historic landmarks and the tales that accompany those landmarks. Contact Lorne Historical Society today if you’d like to book a historic walk or make a purchase from the society’s shop.

Hear the roar of falling droplets pounding into the waters below at spectacular waterfalls in the Otway National Park and surrounding Great Ocean Road region. Base yourself at Lorne or Apollo Bay for scenic forest drives and relaxing walks and picnics.
