Technical Field Day

The Conference Committee have arranged a technical tour suitable for both soil and stormwater professionals to sites around Cairns. The Field Tour will commence and conclude at Hilton Cairns.

Eroding Head Cuts

The Field Tour will commence with a presentation and Q&A session on gully and streambank erosion rehabilitation in the Herbert River catchment being undertaken under the Government's Reef Trust.

Innisfail

Attendees will take a feild tour with banana and cane growers in Innisfail to view best management practices (BMPs) and innovative measures being used to reduce sediment and nutrient runoff from agricultural land-use including subsurface fertiliser boxes and nutrient management planning.

Paronella Park

Lunch will be served at Paronella Park. Paranollea Park has received multiple Queensland tourism awards, is State and National Heritage listed and a National Trust listed property. 

The guided Dream Continues walking tour takes you through the highlights if the park and tells the extraordinary story of Jose Paronella's dreams and vision.

Denitrification bioreactor trial in the Russell catchment of the Wet Tropics

This research project will establish the effectiveness of denitrifying bioreactors as component of an integrated treatment train, including sediment traps and a constructed wetland, being established to manage dissolved inorganic nitrogen in waters flowing from the Babinda Swamp Drainage Area, an area of (mostly) sugar cane production within the Russell River catchment, in the Australian Wet Tropics.
