Dr Tomas Remenyi

Dr Tomas Remenyi is a climate services professional expert at translating complex climate science into useful, accessible products, tools or advice. Tom focuses on meaningful engagement with stakeholders so as to rapidly determine the nexus of where their needs intersect with what known science can actually deliver. Tom has a decade of experience delivering useful climate services to a range sectors including natural hazards (coauthor of the 2016 Tasmania State Natural Disaster Risk Assessment), emergency services (fire, flood, SES, ambulance), the alpine industry, the energy sector (Hydro Tasmania), numerous government departments and agriculture (Wine Australia, lead author of Australia’s Wine Future - A Climate Atlas).

Tom has a dynamic mix of science and commerce training that allows him to view both the research and commercial sectors from a perspective that differs from others. As a ‘systems thinker’ Tom is always trying to figure out what the blockers are to positive change within society across multiple sectors. Tom has recently moved from academia into the climate services sector where he uses his abilities to help strategic decision makers plan for the coming challenges into the future.

Dr Remenyi has authored more than 45 publications with +1400 citations, successfully managed 20 research projects worth a combined value $4m and developed a broad network of stakeholders and colleagues across research, government and industry sectors. Tom is currently supervising 2 PhD students and regularly supports executive leadership teams to better understand how climate change will impact their operations and strategy.
