Carmen Monge
Carmen Monge-Montero is a dedicated cancer advocate, researcher, and person with a lived experience of Hodgkin's Lymphoma, diagnosed at 24. Originally from Costa Rica, she has lived in over six countries, gaining a global perspective on cancer care and advocacy. Her experience as a migrant has shaped her understanding of the challenges faced by young cancer survivors across diverse cultures and healthcare systems.Carmen focuses on amplifying the voices of young people affected by cancer, particularly in areas like Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). She is an active contributor to Youth Cancer Europe and works on improving the quality of life forpeople with a lived experience.Through her global initiative MANO with and beyond cancer YouTube Channel, Carmen connects cancer survivors worldwide. She has also been instrumental in advancing Costa Rica’s ‘Right to be Forgotten’ legislation, inspired by similar efforts in Europe and Chile.In addition, she is the author of Can-Can and the Adventure of Mìng Island, a children's book series that aims to reduce reduce the stigma around cancer and support children with or without the disease.Through her work, Carmen continues to drive policy change, foster inclusivity in cancer care, and empower cancer survivors worldwide.Session: Advocacy
